Could Chelsea Be The New Invincible Team ? Comparison with Arsenal (2003/2004) and Manchester United (1998/99)

Martin Keown: Chelsea is the best team in the history of the Premier League. Impression confirmed by Arsène Wenger, who believes that the Blues have the stuff to win the title without losing a match. We have the opportunity to put Mourinho's team in the test by comparing with two teams that have marked the English history: 2003-2004 Arsenal aka "the Invincibles" and Manchester United 1998-1999, winner tripled.

Goalkeeper: Schmeichel has more experience than Courtois :

Peter Schmeichel makes a wonderful last season 1998-99 with Manchester United, ending with a hat trick. Best European goalkeeper in the 90s, the Dane has a huge experience that Thibault Courtois doesn’t have yet. But the 22 years old Chelsea’s goalkeeper is already one of the best in Europe. In comparison, in 2003-2004, Arsenal has just bought Jens Lehmann from Dortmund. The German (35 years old) has committed several blunders during the season. The most famous one was that mistake that leads to the elimination of the Gunners in the semifinals of the Champions League against Chelsea at home (1-2). But he also impresses in front of Robbie Keane during the capital derby against Tottenham April 25, 2004 (2-2).

Defense : Chelsea’s Monsters :

The Chelsea defense this season is more stronger, thanks to the experience of Terry and to quiet good  level of those underrated Azpilicueta, Ivanovic and Cahill. In 2003-2004, Arsenal’s defense was the best in the Premier League (26 goals conceded). Kolo Toure (22) level blows up, line up alongside with Sol Campbell in central defense. The 29 years old Englishman and the left side Ashley Cole (23) were among the best defenders in the world, Only the Cameroonian Lauren appeared indented to the right.
In 1998-1999, Manchester United didn't make a difference through their rear. Despite the emergence of Stam and G.Neville, Rohnny Johnsen failures and retirement winded of Irwin in the left never go unnoticed.

Midfielders : MU : Middlefield of Dreams :

If Manchester United won everything in 98-99, it was mainly thanks to the perfect and balanced environment that gave all its structure to 4-4-2 of Ferguson. Keane was huge and was considered one of the best defensive midfielders in the history. His association with young Scholes was very efficient. In the wings, Giggs (who scored goal of the year against Arsenal in the Cup semi-final) and Beckham (2nd in the Ballon d'Or 1999) settled as a legend with some decisive roles in the final of C1.
In 2003-2004, Arsenal midfield Vieira-Pires, Gilberto Silva-Ljunberg also holds up really well with the Brazilian world champion and two huge French World Champions (19 goals Pires).

The midfield of Chelsea, has an impressive potential, but still has to work ... Besides promising Matic and Oscar, Hazard and Fabregas are not part of the global top, not yet. As well as Willian who appears to be limited at the highest level.

Attack : Cole-Yorke : Once Soul, Two Bodies :

Thanks to their 80 goals, Manchester United won the Premier League in 1999. Who took revenge after being excluded from the England squad in the 1998 World Cup, Andy Cole developed a telepathic relationship with the newcomer Dwight Yorke (53 goals between them).

The Arsenal’s attack was the most prolific in 2003-2004, it was the class of a Dennis Bergkamp became more organizer in his 34 years old, associated with the effectiveness of Thierry Henry (39 goals in that season). European Golden Boot and top scorer in the Championship, the French finished second in the election of the FIFA player of the year.
This season, Chelsea is led by Diego Costa. Atletico got the new Spanish international has started very well: nine goals in his first seven league games with his new team. But Costa, often injured, now seems to be adversely affected by its adaptation to the Premier League.

Well

Chelsea set up a group of 20 players of the highest level thanks to their bench. It is not for nothing that De Bruyne was gone. They are cut to dominate the Premier League. Their performance does not surprise me.
